Oxfam has just released another humdinger of a report for Davos, entitled Inequality Inc. which has, deservedly and as usual, gained wide global media coverage.

The report’s headline piece of information is this:

“Since 2020, the richest five men in the world have doubled their fortunes. During the same period, almost five billion people globally have become poorer.”

That is crucial, and shocking. But what interests us in particular is the next message, which is fresh:

“A huge concentration of global corporate and monopoly power is exacerbating inequality economy-wide.”

We’re delighted to have collaborated with Oxfam on their report, notably on Chapter 2, entitled A New Era of Monopoly Power. Just for example:

Building on Oxfam’s lead, we will — in partnership with SOMO, Global Justice Now and LobbyControl – publish our own report into monopoly power on January 17th with new evidence on the scale of the phenomenon, the harms that ensue, the historical failure of our regulators and governments to tackle it effectively, and the new, fast-growing anti-monopoly agenda now emerging.
