The EU's Digital Markets Act: time to get serious about enforcement

The European Union’s landmark Digital Markets Act (DMA) comes into proper effect today, in the sense that large digital platforms designated as “gatekeepers” must start to comply with a series of new obligations.

We have joined a submission of civil society organisations urging the European Commission “to take resolute action to enforce the DMA” in light of statements by big tech firms – the designated gatekeepers are Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and ByteDance – that they will only comply to a limited extent.
